I used to have the most difficult time trying to fall asleep. Even with the lot of sleep deprivation my kiddos have put my body and mind through, there were some nights my brain just couldn't shut off. It was like a train station opened 24/7 and the thoughts and to do lists were roaring through constantly. After reading and listening to different books and podcasts, I found somethings that have been working for me, so I'm going to share them here with you, if you're in the same struggle station I was in previously, I hope you find this helpful.

ONE - This one is the MOST important!!!! Turn off your social media, - laptop, phone, desktop whatever you're using AT LEAST an hour before bedtime. I always see people posting how they can't sleep, but they're all over social media. SHUT IT THE HELL OFF. It is nothing but a distraction and will keep your mind going, not slow it down.

TWO - Don't even chance it. Try sleeping without your phone under your pillow (I know you're doing this). Honestly don't even take it in your bedroom. Leave it to charge in the kitchen if you can't trust your busy hands to stay off of it.

THREE - Watch a show with your spouse, find a good book to read, have a hot bath with lavender Epsom salts (or even the baby bath stuff - I Love that shit!), find something that makes you calm and helps you relax. AGAIN NO PHONES!

FOUR - Try some chamomile tea! It is one of the most popular varieties of tea in the market and it has many health benefits and uses. These include its ability to protect the skin, lower stress levels, regulate sleep (ahem!!), and soothe menstrual symptoms. It also boosts the immune system, treats gastrointestinal issues, and manages diabetes, among others. Hello ladies, I hope you're drinking this!

FIVE - This is the game changer for me, I actually use a noise machine. CRAZY, I know, but now I am sleeping like a baby because every creak of the house and whine out of the kids are no longer waking me up. PS- I am a SUPER light sleeper, so this has been the most help for me. It's funny how I stumbled upon this. It was when we were camping in the summer and Jaze always sleeps with one and we didn't bring it. Oops. Mom Fail. Sooo I used an app on my phone and it was the best sleep I actually had in years. It helped both of us and I still use it every. single. night!

SIX - Some may call this one absolutely crazy, BUT it has made me refocus and put me to sleep. When I am really struggling, this is my last resort and has only failed me once -  Sleep Meditation. It is a guided meditation to help you focus on something, to slow down the constant thought process which is going on. Some can't stand listening to someone else talk to them when they're trying to sleep, but the woman's voice is always so soft and soothing. Again you can call my crazy, I don't mind HAH

Honestly, just like with children, routines are always best. Find something that works for you and do the same thing every evening. Try these and practice it for a week to see if anything changes for you. I would love to hear back from your experiences, if you've tried any of these before and if you have any other ideas or questions, feel free to tell me!! I'm always open to hear from others going through similar experiences.
